About
Roderick M. Thompson is a mediator, arbitrator and court-appointed neutral with JAMS, taking antitrust and competition, business commercial, intellectual property, employment, technology, and cybersecurity and privacy disputes. He joined JAMS in 2020 after four decades as a commercial trial lawyer — a partner at Farella Braun + Martel from 1999 to 2020, and at Pillsbury Madison & Sutro from 1980 to 1999. He was a member of one of the first classes of mediators trained in San Francisco, in 1987, and since 2000 has mediated more than 100 patent, trade secret, trademark/advertising and copyright-related controversies. He has served as sole, wing and chair arbitrator since the early 1990s. He also served as an early neutral evaluator for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California from 2000 to 2026. He earned a BA in economics from Trinity College and a JD from Hastings College of the Law, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.
