Format
Three SANS courses with GIAC exam attempts — SEC275/GFACT, SEC401/GSEC and SEC504/GCIH — each completed inside a three-month window including exam preparation.
Length
About nine months in total across the three courses.

Accreditation

Who it suits
A US-based career changer with no cybersecurity experience who wants a funded, credentialed start and will specialise in forensics afterwards.
Audience
Career changers · Students

Strengths

  • Removes the cost barrier entirely, which is the single biggest obstacle to SANS training.
  • Delivers three GIAC certifications, which is a genuinely strong opening credential set.
  • Explicitly aimed at people with no prior experience, so it is a real entry route rather than an upskilling program.

Limitations

  • The three courses are security fundamentals and incident handling — NOT the forensics FOR-series. It does not produce GCFA or GCFE.
  • Eligibility is narrow by design: US citizens or permanent residents only, and having any advanced cyber certification or a cyber graduate degree disqualifies you.
  • Merit-based and heavily oversubscribed, with no published acceptance rate.
  • Nine months at a demanding pace, which is hard to combine with full-time work.
